Open Edition Print on A4 Archival Giclée Paper
From my recent series of medicinal plant fairies.

Kūmarahou is found predominantly in the North Island and is easy to recognise in spring when her bright yellow flowers are in bloom.

She is used in rongoā māori to treat coughs, colds, respiratory issues, bronchitis, asthma and more. She has anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties. Her flowers and leaves are commonly brewed into teas or tonics.

She’s known in English as ‘Gumdiggers Soap’ because her flowers create a natural lather or foam when mixed with water, which the early kauri gum diggers used as soap. Her annual flowering was traditionally an indicator of when kūmara should be planted.
