Mānuka
Widely known from Mānuka honey, this rākau has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and antimicrobial properties. She is indigenous to both the North and South Island and easy to recognise especially when in bloom, with her small white and pink flowers.
Mānuka can help with respiratory, digestive and oral issues. She is also a great immunity booster and can even be used externally to support the healing of wounds. Her leaves and bark were traditionally used in rongoā, to create infusions.
