The first time I visited the Tara Chapel 6 years ago my mind was blown. The octagonal structure built from beautiful stone, is a non-denominational meditation space with incredible acoustics for singing and toning. It has 4 stain glass windows representing the major religious traditions. A green one representing indigenous nature-centered faith, a blue for Hinduism & Buddhism, a yellow for Christianity & Judaism, and red representing Islam & Sufism. It has a final stain glass window on the ceiling featuring woven hearts.
The sanctuary is situated on the Pukewhakataratara mountain and is part of Mana Retreat Center, which I visited recently for a herbal medicine retreat. Being at Mana for those 3 days felt like I was at a ceremonial Hogwarts. Making potions and studying herbology with the most magical French medicine woman, my friend Clio Meyer! I will treasure those days and definitely recommend the experience of a retreat at Mana.
If you're interested in my dreamy scene of the Sanctuary, the original is available and I will have prints available next month.
