It’s easy to forget that there are massive quartz veins running underneath us here. I think that’s part of why Coromandel feels like it’s charged with so much magic. 
I think it’s beautiful how these discarded quartz piles or ‘waste rocks’ from the mines are reclaimed by nature again. You can often find these crystals covered in moss and fungi and I wanted to have a go incorporating them into a scene.
Whenever we look for crystals piwakawakas/fantails always come out so I had to have one in the center of the painting.
